Theo Barfoot is a postdoctoral researcher in medical imaging AI at King’s College London and Technology Lead at MedCaliper, developing software for automated longitudinal brain-tumour assessment and structured clinical reporting.

His doctoral research, undertaken through the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Smart Medical Imaging, developed differentiable calibration losses and spatially structured uncertainty methods for medical image segmentation. Helping to advance truthworth and reliable machine learning methods.

His current work includes developing AI systems for tracking brain tumours across longitudinal MRI scans, curating neuro-oncology and neurosurgery datasets, analysing hyperspectral imaging data from pre-clinical studies, and building open-source research software using Python, PyTorch, and MONAI.

Before entering academic research, Theo has worked as an NHS Clinical Scientist in MRI Physics at the Royal Marsden Hospital, as part of a research team investigating the use of machine learning for the diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma from whole body MRI scans. Theo has an MSc from King’s College London in Medical Physics and an MEng in Biomedical Engineering from Imperial College London.
