Prof Sébastien Ourselin is Head of School, Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences (560 staff and PhD students) and Chair of Healthcare Engineering at King’s College London. Prior to his recent appointment he was Vice-Dean (Health) at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, Director of the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Medical Imaging, Head of the Translational Imaging Group (72 staff) within the Centre for Medical Image Computing (CMIC) and Head of Image Analysis at the Dementia Research Centre (DRC) at UCL. He has published over 300 journal articles and has a current h-index of 65. Before working in the UK, he founded and led the CSIRO BioMediA Lab, Australia where he notably led the development of a successfully commercialized colonoscopy simulator. His main research interests include image-guided therapy, minimally invasive surgery and imaging biomarker development. He has been involved in a broad range of collaborative research projects, with applications in neurosurgery, neuroimaging, cardiovascular surgery, radiotherapy treatment, colonoscopy, and orthopaedic surgery. He is an associate editor for IEEE TMI, JMI, Scientific Reports, and Medical Image Analysis. He actively contributes to conference organisations (12 international conferences as General or Program Chair) and professional societies. He plays a leading role in PhD training having notably set up and run the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Medical Imaging at UCL.
